区块链即“Blockchain”，本质上是一个去中心化的数据库，具体指的是分布式数据存储、点对点传输、共识机制、加密算法等计算机技术的新型应用模式。区块链是比特币的一个重要概念，它的目的是验证信息的有效性。

区块链的特征有以下几点，即“去中心化”、“开放性”、“自治性”、“信息不可篡改”、“匿名性”等等。“去中心化”，区块链没有中心化的硬件或者管理机构;“开放性”，区块链的数据对所有人开放;“自治性”，人为的干预对区块链不起作用;“信息不可篡改”，在某个节点上对数据库的修改是无效的;“匿名性”，交易双方无须公开身份。

区块链在很多方面都有应用，比如教育行业、互联网、金融业、房地产行业等等。教育行业，2018年4月，牛津大学的一群学者宣布创办世界上第一所区块链大学，即伍尔夫大学;互联网，2018年5月29日，为了保证词条编辑公正透明，百度百科上线区块链新功能;金融业，2018年6月25日，全球首个基于区块链的电子钱包跨境汇款服务在香港上线;房地产行业，区块链会使产业链流程变得更现代化。
