论坛汇集以中国工程院院士李培根为代表的院士专家、政府代表、专精特新企业代表以及金融、人才等领域的服务机构，集结中部工业尖峰力量，聚焦打通“专精特新”小巨人的“堵点”和“断点”、工业互联网赋能中小企业数字化转型等内容展开研究探讨。

湖北是制造大省，拥有一大批实力强劲的中小企业，目前全省认定专精特新“小巨人”企业达473家。整体数量跨越增长，两年内总量由全国17位升至第8、中部第二。“十四五”时期，湖北将围绕“专精特新”完善优质企业梯度培育体系，计划培育1万家左右“专精特新”入库企业。
